Visa
Visitors from abroad have to carry a passport,
that is valid until 6 months after the date of departure. Tourists
from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Holland, next to others, do
not need to apply for a visa, if they do not intend to stay more
than 90 days a year, and have a valid flight ticket for the
departure. Note that it is not possible to extend your stay through
a short trip over the borders to one of the neighbouring countries.
Since these restrictions are subject to change, we advise the
visitor to obtain the latest information from your local consulate.
Climate/Clothing
The climate in Namibia is very agreeable for most
Europeans. The hottest months fall into the time period of the
European winter, it is the high of summer from November to January.
Our winter is from May to August. During the day in winter the
temperature lies around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, while the skies
are usually blue and clear. In the mornings and evenings as well as
at night, it can get very cool, so you should remember to bring a
sweatshirt and jacket. The sun shines hotly in winter and summer,
which makes it necessary to wear a hat when outdoors. Furthermore
you should not forget to bring: sun tan lotion, a protective balm
for the lips, sun glasses, sandals, Bathing trunks or suits, a
flashlight and of course a camera with a reasonable supply of film.
For the hunt you should bring the usual sturdy green or khaki
clothing, that can withstand the pull of thorns. You should also
bring high, sturdy hunting boots with you.
Health
At this time there are no vaccinations necessary
for a visit to Namibia. Nevertheless Malaria-Prophylaxes is advised,
especially in the northern part (Caprivi) of Namibia. All persons
coming to Namibia must prove through receipts, that all medications
imported are their private possession, otherwise the medications
might be confiscated by customs.
Currency
One Euro is worth approx. 10 Namibian Dollar. The
Namibian Dollar is tied to the South-African Rand (ZAR).
1 Rand = 100 cents = 1 N$
You may import foreign currency at your leisure for personal use,
but may only import 500 N$ (approx. 50 Euro). We therefore suggest
you change your currency in Namibia.
Power Circuit
220/240 Volt. The sockets are for three-pronged
plugs. You can buy adapters in every electronic shop or in the
bigger supermarkets. The power circuit is the South-African, so
South-African adapters must be purchased.
Time Zone
There is up to one hour time difference between
Windhoek and Berlin (CET).
Drivers License
Self drivers must be in the possession of an
international drivers license as well as their European drivers
license. Remember: In Namibia we drive on the left side of the road,
and because of the fact, that our wildlife roams freely, high speeds
quickly lead to accidents on the gravel and salt streets. That
accidents are fairly frequent here, can be seen by the fees of the
car rental agencies, whose insurance rates have soared. We would not
like to see any of our guests have a traffic accident.
Moreover, incidents of drowning in the desert are
not unheard of during the annual rains. The dry riverbeds swell up
in hours, and render many roads un passable. If you plan on driving
through remote places, you should use every chance you get to
refuel.
Hunting Season:
The hunting season in Namibia runs from 01. of February
until 30. of November.
Riffles:
We suggest that you bring your own hunting rifle,
if the calibre is 7mm or greater. Common ammunition can be bought
for you here, if the request is made early enough. You can also hire
a weapon from the farm, and should reserve the weapon of your choice
beforehand.
